ABOUT US & EXPEDITIONS
“Thank you for a wonderful trip on a great ship with a fantastic crew.”
Expeditions NW, Inc. continues to provide marine adventures using our 120′ foot vessel Expeditions to present opportunities to explore the ecological, cultural and educational wonders of the Pacific Northwest, an area that provides significant opportunity for expanding horizons and venturing into a world rich with history and geologic importance. Formerly Victoria Express passenger ferry, providing scheduled passenger service between Port Angeles and Victoria, B.C. as well as private charters and other marine adventures, the new company brings to the table over 20 years of experience on the waters of the Pacific Northwest.
We leave green footprints…HE Class Engines Reduce More Than Just Emissions
Jack and Terri Harmon of Port Angeles, Washington, owners and operators of Expeditions NW, have retrofitted the Expeditions with eco friendly High Efficiency (HE) class engines. The HE engines exceed International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emission standards by reducing hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, visible smoke, and sulfur emissions. The engine replacement project permits the burning of biodiesel fuel, a clean burning alternative fuel produced from domestic, renewable resources. It is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic, and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics.
Long Term Investment for the Future
While the repowering project came at a significant cost, the Harmons felt it was worth the investment and effort because of the clean burning effects of biodiesel, the reduction in emissions, the fuel savings, and resultant engine life extension.
Expeditions Vessel Facts
The Expeditions is constructed of aluminum and is gyro-stabilized for a smoother ride. Expeditions is a 120-foot vessel with four turbo charged engines enabling the vessel to travel at a cruising speed of approximately 20 knots. The vessel is fitted with modern navigational systems, redundant equipment and electronics, and meets or exceeds International Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) requirements.
A Friendly and Knowledgeable Crew
Aboard the vessel and in our ticket office you’ll find a friendly, knowledgeable, and well-trained crew ready to assist you. A galley is available on board for snacks, soft drinks, and adult beverages, and Expeditions NW frequently features breakfast or lunch or drinks as a cruise amenity.
The Joys of Sailing in the waters of the Pacific NW
While sailing in the abundant waters of the Pacific Northwest, your trip may be enhanced by sightings of porpoise, sea birds, and the occasional magnificent Orca or humpback whale. We are known to slow down and even stop to allow our passengers the opportunity to view the wildlife. You will never want to forget a camera.
